Challenge
For Making Things, a company in Zurich specialising in contemporary women's and kids' wear, the need was to develop an e-commerce platform that not only reflects their modern style but also efficiently manages operations. They sought a system to integrate with their POS for effective stock management, order processing, and customer interaction tracking.
Approach
The centrepiece was the connection to the boutique's POS system: stock levels, orders and customer data stay in sync between the store and the online shop — with no double bookkeeping.
At the same time, the shop had to present the curated range the way the brand deserves: reduced, modern, with clearly separated worlds for women and kids, so customers quickly find what they are looking for.
Solution
The result is a Shopify store with two entrances — women and kids — each with its own navigation, curated categories and brand pages. The restrained, editorial design (by HOH /agency) keeps the products and imagery front and centre.
Shopify POS keeps the boutique and the online shop in sync: one stock across multiple warehouses, one source of truth. Orders ship home or are picked up at the Grüngasse store, and the shop runs fully bilingually in German and English — with local payment methods like TWINT and QR invoice on board.
The previous shop ran on Magento; we migrated it fully to Shopify — products, customer accounts and order history, including the multi-store and multi-warehouse structure, with no data left behind.
Outcome
Making Things now has a presence that matches the care of its own curation: two clearly separated worlds for women and kids, stock that stays in sync with the boutique, and a shopping experience that holds together from browsing to in-store pickup.
